Kiev submits list of targets in Russia to Washington

Kiev will present the US with a list of targets in Russia to achieve a lifting of US arms restrictions. Meanwhile, the Kremlin warns that the price for attacking Russia could be the loss of US sovereignty.

Kiev is preparing a list of potential targets in Russia that Zelensky's entourage believes should be attacked by Ukrainian forces. The document will be presented to high-ranking officials in US security circles.

With the list, the Ukrainian government wants to make a last attempt to convince Washington to lift restrictions on the use of American weapons on Russian territory, reports Politico , citing three sources who say they are familiar with the plans of the Ukrainian government.

Kiev had previously mentioned several possible targets to the US, but the new list is said to be more detailed.

Sources told the newspaper that Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and Andrei Yermak, the head of the Ukrainian president's office, will travel to Washington this week to negotiate and present the updated list to the US government.

However, US authorities believe that lifting the restrictions will have no strategic significance for the course of the conflict because Russia has made key targets, including its air force, "inaccessible", the newspaper wrote.

However, Kiev has identified several targets that it considers important and that it believes could be hit by US missiles, Politico's interlocutors claimed .

The US government had previously confirmed that talks with Ukraine on the prospects of expanding attacks on Russian territory with US weapons were continuing. However, the conversations were not made public.

For the Kremlin, the use of Western weapons to attack Russia is proof of Western involvement in the conflict. In June, Vladimir Putin stated that Moscow can supply its weapons to regions of the world from which attacks can be carried out on targets in countries that supply weapons to Kiev.

Mikhail Sheremet, a member of Russia's Committee for Security and Anti-Corruption, told the TASS news agency:

“The ball is now in the US court, and their game is clearly not going well, so they need to face reality and weigh everything very carefully before giving the pass to Ukraine, which is trying to embroil the US and Europe in a third and final world war.”

Scheremet also believed that the United States could supply cruise missiles to Ukraine through its European allies, but that the political price for Washington would be very high.

“There is no doubt that the US will try to realize its far-reaching aggressive plans to hand over cruise missiles to the regime in Kiev. Perhaps they are trying to do this at the hands of the Europe they have enslaved. But in any case, the price for this decision will be too high for them and will lead to the loss of their own  sovereignty.”

The lawmaker also pointed out that the US not only has many docile allies, but also some determined adversaries who want to debunk the “myth of security under the flag of stars.”
